Po nezbytné odpočinku na břehu moře (dorazili jsme v hluboké noci) jsme se vydali pod horami do města Rustaq a odtup pak přes pohoří Al Akhdar, které je možno překonat jednoduše po dálnici. My jsme si vybrali původní stezky, které přes hory vedou po celá staletí Malým a Velkým hadím kaňonem. Po přejedu hor jsme dorazili k wádí Ghul (tzv. ománský Velký kaňon) na úpatí nejvyšší hory Džebel Šams, prošli se v jeho srázech k opuštěné vesničce , jejíž políčka jsou ve skále nad obrovským skalním převisem. No a pak jsme to zkusili i po dně kaňonu až kam se dalo dojet. V této oblasti jsme také navštívili hroby ve tvaru včelích úlů postavené v době bronzové nedaleko dnešní osady Al Ayn.
