Areál byl vystavěn v 60-tých letech jako součást staveniště údolní přehrady „ Šance“. Tento objekt zajišťoval ubytování stavebním dělníkům podílejících se na výstavbě vodního díla. V 1973 byly provedeny nezbytné stavební úpravy těchto ubytoven. Dne 8.ledna 1974 byl otevřen Ústav sociální péče pro mládež Ostravice. Léčebna pro mentálně postižené děti zvaná „Mazák“ byla uzavřena a přestěhována v roce 1999 z důvodu strachu z povodní. V roce 1997 hrozilpři povodních sesuv svahu Řečice do přehrady Šance, který by způsobil obrovskou vlnu, která by se přelila přes hráz a smetla léčebnu s sebou. Mnozí z chovanců ústavu byli připoutáni na lůžko a tak by rychlá evakuace byla prakticky nemožná. V roce 2006 koupil areál v dražbě za necelých 7 mil. korun ostravský podnikatel Petr N.<br>
