Ibrahim Nasir International airport on Hulhule Island is a spectacular place to land among the coral atolls. The airport is a short public ferry ride to Male, the capital of the Maldives. Male is an island city, one of the smallest capitals in the world. It's compact, easy to explore, with sites such as coral carved mosques, lively fish market and many cafe's & restaurants. Some of the sites we visited were The Republican Square, Grand Friday Mosque, Old Friday Mosque, November 3rd Memorial, Tetrapod monument, Artificial Beach. The capital & the international airport are part of the Male Atoll (Kaafu Atoll). This was how we started our Dhoni based snorkelling holiday in to the Maldives.
