The ancient temples, abandoned capitals and sacred sites of early Sinhhalese dynasties are on the hot central plains of Sri Lanka. Places include Anuradapura, Polonnaruwa, Aukana & Sigiriya. Sacred sites include Sri Maha Bodhi, Ruvanvelisaya Dagoba, Abhayagiri Dagoba, Mahavihara Samadhi Buddha, Kuttam Pokuna, Abayagiri Monastery, Jetavanarama Dagoba, the Aukana Buddha. We saw Toque Monkey's, Monitor Lizards, Moonstones, Crested Hawk-Eagle, the Great Egret. At Sigiriya, on a spectacular rock outcrop was once a remarkable royal capital. Around the base are the Royal Gardens, clinging to the rock face are the famous frescoes whilst on the summit are mysterious ruins.
