Bagan (formerly Pagan) lies in a vast area of plains of Upper Myanmar along the Ayerarwadi River. Pagan was the capital of ancient Kingdom of Pagan which once had over 13000 Buddhist temples and monasteries of which 2230 remain. We stayed in the township of Nuang U and travelled around the temples of old Bagan by horse and cart. Bagan is a good place to visit a marionette performance as string puppets have a history going back to 11th century in this area
