Ta Prohm, ("The Royal Monastery"), consecrated 1186 by Jayavarman VII, was a temple-monastery dedicated to the memory of the king's mother. This temple has been made famous by numerous trees left when the site was uncovered in 1920. The trees overgrow the walls; their decorative roots cling to the stones and force their way into any gaps of the masonry which they gradually burst. (The site was used in the movie Tomb Raider) The Buddhist monastery Banteay Kdei is similar to Ta Prohm but a smaller version. Much of it remains in ruins. The Hindu temple of East Mebon was built on an island once surrounded by the water of the East Baray, which has since dried up. In its time, the temple was accessed by boats. The temple is guarded by stone figures of harnessed elephants. The temple-mountain is like a smaller version of Pre Rup built on the south bank of the East Baray
