Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda's largest national park of about 3,893 square klms. It's in north-western Uganda, spreads inland from the shores of Lake Albert and bisected by the Victoria Nile from east to west for 115 klms. There is plenty of wildlife here, including 4 of the Big Five (only Rhino absent but can be viewed at the nearby Ziwa sanctuary), lots of primates, big herds of Giraffe, Elephant and Buffalo. The Nile has many Hippos and very large Nile Crocodiles. Bird watching is also particularly good in this Park with 451 recorded species.
The Murchison Falls is where the outlet of Lake Victoria sends 300 cubic meters per second of water over the falls, squeezing through a gorge less than ten metres wide then tumbling 43 metres before flowing westward into Lake Albert. We visited this park in February 2016 using African Big Five Safaris Ltd, Kampala, to organise our travel logistics.
