Why we went: “a Journey from to the end of the civilised world, leaving Ushuaia to follow in Shackleton's footsteps into the heart of Antarctica and setting foot on the Great White Continent. Each day a new discovery, whether cruising through ice-choked waterways, trekking through chattering penguin rookeries, watching soaring sea birds far from land and whales breaching in the pristine waters. Our journey was via the Falklands, South Shetlands and South Sandwich islands incredibly rich in rare wildlife and history. On South Georgia, there's over 30 species of birds, including four penguin species, seals, abandoned whaling stations and the grave of the great explorer: Sir Ernest Shackleton. One of the most exciting parts was getting up close and personal with regular Zodiac excursions to sub Antarctic islands the plunging coastline of the Antarctic Peninsula.”
