On reaching East Falkland Island we sailed through the Narrows into Port Stanley Harbour and explored Stanley the capital of the Falkland Islands, with historic buildings and notable English character. Close to Stanley is Gypsy Cove with beautiful white sandy bays and Magellanic penguins. Here we photographed Black-crowned night herons on their nests with recently hatched chicks nesting on the cliffs along with nesting Magellanic cormorants, Magellanic geese, the Falklander thrush, Black-throated finch and the Turkey vulture. Scurvy grass was in flower, a plant used by early sailors to prevent the disease, scurvy.
