Sailing across the Scotia Sea towards the Antarctic Peninsula we came to the South Orkney Islands, part of the British Antarctic Territory. We were able to come ashore at Shingle Cove, a small sheltered cove in the north west corner of Ice Berg Bay. It was an extremely beautiful spot with bright green mosses and orange lichen covered rocks. We saw our first Adélie penguins (Pygoscelis adeliae) with new born chicks hatching and moulting elephant seals the same colour as the lichen. We zodiac cruised around Ice Berg Bay and saw some incredible ice sculptures and wildlife on the ice floes and huge tabular ice bergs with ice caves.
