This book is a photographic journey of our trip around the Malaysian peninsula in May 2017.
Starting on the west coast in Kuala Lumpur we visited the Batu Caves Hindu pilgrimage site. Heading south our next stop was the historic city of Melaka. Travelling inland we stayed in the tropical rainforests of Taman Negara and took a canopy walk, trekked the jungle fighting off leeches and shot some rapids on a river trip.
On the Perhentian Islands off the east coast we enjoyed some fantastic snorkelling. It was then on to Kota Bharu with its vibrant market. Next stop was a traditional home-stay in Kota Aur and a visit to Kota Muda Whispering fish market and memorial to the 2004 tsunami.
From the west coast we crossed the 13.5km bridge to Penang island and stayed at George Town, a world heritage site. There were historic shop-houses, and Chinese clan jetties. A funicular railway took us to the top of Penang Hill with interesting nature walks around the wooded slopes and also in the Penang Botanic Gardens.
Completing our trip we stayed on Langkawi Island at a beautiful resort set in a natural rainforest with its own beach and mangroves. Close by was Mt Machinchang with a cable car and spectacular Sky Bridge. The trip gave us a really good insight into peninsula Malaysia.
