n Ranthambore National Park, we photographed wild boar, Sloth Bear, Langur & Hanuman monkeys, Mugger Crocodiles. Deer include Chital, Spotted & Sambar, for antelope, male & female Nilgai plus a well camouflaged Tiger. Birds include Painted & Black Storks, Common Kingfisher, Red Wattled Lapwing, Painted Sandgrouse, Grey Francolin, Ashy-crowned Sparrow-lark, Griffon Vulture, White-bellied Drongo, Great Tit, Bay-backed Shrike, Jungle Crow, Jungle Babbler Rufous Treepie, Yellow-crowned Woodpecker, Greater Coucal and India's national bird, the Peacock.
The fort is within the Ranthambore NP and from its battlements there's good views of the park. We were at Ranthambore Fort during a Ganesha festival and saw pilgrims at shrines and on their way to Trinetra Ganesh Temple. Also within the fortress walls were mosques, a Shiva temple, Hammirs Palace & tomb, Badal Mahal - the Cloud Palace. At the entrance is a stone head of the traitor Ranmal whose false news led to a Jauhar (mass sacrifice) of 1000's of women. Wildlife seen within the forts walls include monkeys, a snake (aptly near the head of the traitor), dragonfly and a Red-vented Bulbul.
