Orchha is a rural town on the banks of the Betwa river. Within the fortified town walls is the huge Orchha palace-fort with 3 major palaces: Jahangiri Mahal, Sheesh Mahal & Raj Mahal. Frescoes in the Raj Mahal, especially the ramayana scenes, are outstanding. Living within the fort were Indian Vultures, Indian Ringneck Parrots & a Spotted Owlet. From the palaces are astounding views of the surrounding countryside. Orchha has a number of fine temples such as Chaturbhuj Temple -with its Hanuman monkeys, Ringneck Parrots, Vultures & goats , Lakshmi Narayan Temple, Ram Raja temple. By Ghats on the Betwa river are a number of fine cenotaphs to Orchha's rulers.
