Leaving the Intrepid group in Kyoto we continued by Bullet trains to Kyushu, first stop Beppu, then on to Kagoshima via Mount Aso. At Beppo visited "the Hells", At Mt Aso, peered inside the smoking, bubbling Nakadake crater. Took a Japanese day tour around Sakurajima island (guide sang at end of tour) - recommended experience. Hiked in Kirishima NP around volcanoes & stayed in its people's lodge. Hired a car to explore the southern coastline of Kyushu, visited the Samurai village (Chiran) and drove on the back roads of a very rural Japan using GPS (in Japanese) & a map (in English).
