From Porongurups, we drove via Mount Barker to visit Mondurup Reserve to see the wild orchids & onto Mount Trio caravan park, our base for exploring the Stirling Ranges. The Stirling Ranges NP covers the only major mountain range in southern WA & is one of the world’s most important areas for flora, many of which grow nowhere else - see our Porongurups Wildflowers album for some of the spring wildflowers we photographed. Fauna seen in area include Yellow-rumped Thornbill, Weebill and Heath monitor. A sealed road goes through the valleys between the ranges ( Stirling Range Drive) for access to the lookouts, picnic areas & walks.
