41 Port Pirie to Renmark bird WAtrip
Leaving Port Augusta late afternoon, we drove to Port Pirie, our next overnight stop. Port Pirie has smelting industries since the 1880's and Italian migrants, many from Molfetta, brought their fishing skills. Near Jamestown, explored the Maple Walk in the Bundaleer Forest before camping at Burra, now a pretty tourist town with an historic copper mine. To get to Berri, we went via the Cadell Wetlands using the Morgan vehicle ferry to cross the Murray River. A late afternoon Berri Riverfront Walk rewarded us with a number of bird sightings. At Renmark, we visited Rushtons Rose gardens and Murtho Forest lookout. Our lunch stop was on the banks of the Murray River near the Customs House store on the South Australia - NSW border.
