boat reflections Suzhou Venice of the East Week in China
Suzhou is often called the Venice of the East because of its many waterways. These photos showing local life along the Shantang Street Canal were taken from a boat and then a walk to reflect on a quieter part of the canal. Suzhou is the destination of China's Grand Canal, the world's longest surviving manmade waterway that starts in Beijing -1776 klms away - with sections dating back to 5th century BC.
