Aït Benhaddou is a traditional Mud Brick city on the edge of the High Atlas Mountains on the former caravan route between the Sahara and Marrakech. It is on the UNESCO World Heritage List and has featured in many films, mostly as a replacement for Jerusalem. The movie business took off in Ouarzazate and the ‘Ouallywood’ movie studios provide convincingly exotic backdrops for movies supposedly set in Tibet, ancient Rome, Somalia and Egypt.
