From it's majestic entrance onwards, its an overwhelming display of architectural and artwork brilliance. There's Bernini's Baldachin directly beneath Michelangelo's Dome, di Cambio's Statue of St Peter, Michelangelo's Pieta, statues to Saints including St Peter of Alcantara, St. Longinus, St. Juliana Falconieri , Pope St Pius X. Statues to Popes including Pope Benedict XV, Pope Pius VII, Pope Leo XI, Pope Innocent XI. The tomb of St Peter and mosaic of St Peter. Bernini's Throne of St Peter and the tomb of Pope Alexander VII. The climb to the roof of the Basilica provides closeup views of the external dome. Inside there's a gallery that circulates the inner dome for views down into the Basilica & the inner dome decorations. The next staircase spirals between the inner & outer domes to a viewing platform around the Domes lantern. From here there's 360 degree views of Rome. You look down onto Vatican museums, gardens and the magificent design by Bernini of St Peters Square.
