Bishkek was a caravan rest stop on The Silk Road route that went along the alpine ranges of central Kyrgyzstan to the Chinese border at Torugart Pass. Today Bishkek is a city of wide boulevards and marble-faced public buildings such as The National Museum & The Kyrgyz Republic Parliament house. There's monuments to Alay Tokombaev, Lenin, Karl Marx & Frederick Engels, Freedom monument (Erkindik), Victory Monument and Soldiers' statue in Victory Square. In Oak Park, we watched a music concert where they wore traditional costumes and played instruments like Timir Komuz (Jew's harp), Komaz (qomuz) a fretless string instrument. In Ala-Too Square, we watched the changing of the guard ceremony.
