The Valley of the Mills is a scenic hike up the mountain valley behind Amalfi town. The trail first passes old farmhouses and lemon groves and continues in the Canneto River valley passed crumbling ruins of old paper mills covered in moss and vines . An old paper making factory with equipment still intact stands eerily abandoned. The hike continues to climb upward through wooded areas with wild flowers and small waterfalls until it reaches the Valley of the Ironworks with the atmospheric remains of an old iron foundry and aqueduct. Retracing our steps we stopped at a farm-shop in the lemon groves for freshly squeezed lemon juice.
