Nördlingen ist eine Große Kreisstadt im schwäbischen Landkreis Donau-Ries in Bayern.
Das Bayerische Eisenbahnmuseum (BEM) ist ein Eisenbahnmuseum in Nördlingen, das 1985 auf dem Gelände des 1982 stillgelegten Bahnbetriebswerks Nördlingen seine Fahrzeugsammlung hier unterbrachte. Mit mehr als hundert Originalfahrzeugen ist es das größte private Eisenbahnmuseum Bayerns.
Gegründet wurde das BEM 1969 als "EC 18 528" und später in "Eisenbahnclub München" umbenannt. Die Fahrzeugsammlung wurde in München aufgebaut und litt an Raumnot. Im Herbst 1985 übernahm das Bayerische Eisenbahnmuseum die teilweise demontierten Anlagen des ehemaligen Betriebswerkes in Nördlingen.
Seitdem wird in mühevoller Kleinarbeit versucht, wieder ein komplettes Bahnbetriebswerk einzurichten. So mussten einige Gleise wieder neu verlegt und etliche Lokschuppenstände wieder an die Drehscheibe angeschlossen werden. Daneben wurden noch zwei Wasserkräne neu installiert. In naher Zukunft soll auch wieder eine Bekohlungsanlage in Betrieb genommen werden.
