Šimkovy sady jsou největším hradeckým parkem vzniklým v letech 1932 - 1935 na návrh Josefa Gočára. Byly upraveny jako anglický park. Většinu manuálních prací prováděli tehdejší nezaměstnaní, kteří dostávali žebračenky a zbytek mzdy v penězích. V pozdějších letech byly několikrát rozšířeny a přebudovány. Poslední rekonstrukce byla provedena v letech 2012 - 2014. Poslední pojmenování dostaly po hradeckém skautovi Karlu Šimkovi, který byl poblíž zastřelen 30.4,.1945 při protifašistické činnosti. V sadech jsou dvě vodní nádrže, na každé z nich je můstek. K procházkám slouží síť uliček, většinou asfaltových. Sady jsou vroubené zbytkem zachovalých zelených hradebních valů někdejší hradecké pevnosti.<br>
